St John Fisher College offers an extensive Vocational Education and Training (VET) program, giving students the opportunity to undertake nationally recognised qualifications from Certificate II through to Diploma level under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
VET courses can be undertaken in a variety of ways:
- On campus – delivered at St John Fisher College through partnerships with external Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
- Off campus RTO delivery – delivered at external RTO campuses across various locations, typically requiring attendance one day per week. This includes programs such as TAFE at School, Mater Education and other specialist providers.
- School-based traineeships and apprenticeships – combine paid employment, on-the-job training and certificate study through an external RTO. Students generally attend the workplace one day per week.
- Skills and trade tasters in Year 10 – short introductory experiences at TAFE Queensland and other RTOs to support informed pathway decisions.
- Short courses and school holiday programs – industry-specific courses designed to build skills and enhance employability.
Students apply for VET programs as part of the SET Plan process, which takes place during Year 10.
VET study enables students to develop real-world skills and industry knowledge in their chosen field, along with valuable employability skills that support pathways to work, further training or university.
