Umbarra

St John Fisher College values the contribution our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students make to the life of the school, and we acknowledge the learning journey our students are leading us on in relation to reconciliation and acknowledging our past.

First Nations students have the opportunity to share and grow their cultural connection through our Umbarra group. Named after the black duck—a totem of leadership and guidance—the group provides a space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to connect, share, and celebrate culture.

The group also plays a key role in leading cultural events, supporting the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and fostering respectful relationships across the school community. They students are also supported by a Cultural Liaison Officer.
