St John Fisher College (SJFC) offers a robust sports program where girls are encouraged to embody the motto THIS GIRL CAN in all activities. Our programs foster confidence, resilience, responsibility, community, and lifelong wellbeing through both individual and team sports. All students are encouraged to participate in sport through the College’s extensive interhouse and co-curricular programs. The details of these are below:
Interhouse Sport
Our four school houses compete in three annual sporting carnivals:
- Swimming
- Cross Country
- Track and Field.
Interhouse sport emphasises participation, teamwork and good sportsmanship, encouraging students to have a go and earn house points towards the house cup.
CaSSSA Sport
St John Fisher College is a proud member of the Catholic Secondary Schoolgirls’ Sports Association (CaSSSA).
CaSSSA offers a wide range of sports and provides students with opportunities to participate in:
- Weekly interschool fixtures (Wednesday afternoons)
- Gala days and carnivals.
The association balances participation and performance while fostering positive sporting experiences, social connection and personal growth.
Representative Sport
The College has a strong record of student success within district pathways, supported by a focus on skill development, passion and enjoyment of sport. We are fortunate to belong to Central District which leads to representative opportunities Metropolitan North School Sport and Queensland Representative School Sport.
Recreational Sport
Recreational sport at SJFC promotes fitness, friendship and wellbeing, recognising that sport is not only about competition.
Opportunities include:
- Run Club, in partnership with Start Running, Stay Running (Terms 1–3)
- Pickleball, held on Friday mornings before school
- Dodgeball, including interhouse and student vs staff games.
These activities encourage inclusive participation and healthy habits in a fun, social environment.
Featured Sports
AFL is offered through CaSSSA:
- Term 1 for Senior students (Years 10–12)
- Term 4 for Junior students (Years 7–9).
Students compete annually in the AFL Schools Cup, with recent success progressing to the SEQ finals stage.
Netball is offered through CaSSSA:
- Term 2 for Intermediate and Senior students (Years 9–12)
- Term 4 for Junior students (Years 7–8).
The Netball Excellence Program supports talented players competing in high-level competitions, including QISSN and Vicki Wilson Cup/Shield.
Volleyball is available to all students:
- Term 1 for Intermediate and Senior students
- Term 2 for Junior students.
The College competes annually in the Volleyball Schools Cup on the Gold Coast, a highlight of the sporting calendar.
Through CaSSSA, students may participate in:
- Annual gala day and,
- Term 1 Junior Development Program (Years 7-8).
Touch Football is one of the most popular CaSSSA sports at SJFC:
- Term 2 for Junior students (Years 7–8)
- Term 3 for Senior students (Years 9–12).
Students also compete in the Brisbane Touch Football Secondary All Schools Competition held annually in August.
