Learning Enhancement

Learning Enhancement at St John Fisher College is embedded within a whole‑school commitment to inclusive, high‑quality teaching and learning. Rather than existing as a stand‑alone area, inclusive education is woven throughout classroom practice, curriculum design, and student support structures. Through a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility, we strive to promote engagement, learning growth, academic success, and student wellbeing for all learners.

The Learning Enhancement team plays a key role in supporting student progress by focusing on achievement and continuous improvement in learning outcomes. Our approach is informed by student data, enabling us to respond proactively and flexibly to individual learning needs.

Students access a rigorous and inclusive curriculum within mainstream classrooms. Teaching is supported through reasonable adjustments and the consistent use of evidence‑informed strategies to ensure all students can participate meaningfully in learning experiences.

At St John Fisher College, students are encouraged to develop independence, resilience, and confidence as learners. We actively promote student voice and agency, empowering learners to understand their strengths and take ownership of their learning journey. Strong partnerships with families, caregivers, external professionals, and system personnel underpin our approach, ensuring that decisions are informed, collaborative, and centred on student needs.

Teachers and support staff work closely together to provide targeted support that enhances learning and removes barriers to success.

This support may include:

  • Coordinating education adjustment processes for with disabilities or learning difficulties
  • Providing in‑class support to enhance access and engagement
  • Supporting students to use assistive technologies effectively
  • Coaching students in organisation, time management, and study skills
  • Offering after‑school homework support
  • Supporting students for whom English is an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)
  • Determining and implementing appropriate assessment adjustments and access arrangements.
