Dr Sally Towns attends ANZAC Day Assembly

sally towns.jpgExecutive Director, Brisbane Catholic Education, Dr Sally Towns, visited St John Fisher College Bracken Ridge last week, joining their ANZAC Day Assembly where the school heard from 1988 Alumni Sargent Karyn Hinder, now an Australian Airforce recruiter after her earlier career in Defence.

After the solemnity of the morning, the ED's tour started at the college's new Mercedes building and Maggies café whose proceeds fund social justice initiatives, then on to their design hub and new industrial kitchens.

When engaging with classes studying senior French Immersion, Dr Towns was interested to hear how they engage with their subject, how it transforms their thinking, and how they interpret their learning in French, instead of English.

Dr Towns also visited FisherONE classes, speaking with the students and teachers about how their subjects were progressing in a virtual environment. Students spoke to her about a coding exercise (Digital Solutions), Japanese and Modern History.

Dr Towns also heard answers to “Who was John Fisher?", hearing students recite a brief history on how he came to be a saint, fought for what he believed in and his integrity, which ultimately cost him his life.
