Student Learning

STJOHNFISHERPROMOPICSOCT2022(10of157).jpgAll phases of schooling at St John Fisher College are underpinned by Brisbane Catholic Education's Learning and Teaching Framework and The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Declaration (2019). The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Declaration sets the national vision for education for all Australians and notes two goals:
  1. The Australian education system promotes excellence and equity.
  1. All young Australians become:
    • Confident and creative individuals
    • Successful lifelong learners
    • Active and informed members of the community

Curriculum design and delivery at St John Fisher College is grounded in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration and is mindful of the declaration's goals. In alignment with the declaration, which promotes excellence and equity, we support students to achieve high standards and provide structures and adjusted strategies that enable equitable learning experiences. This is achieved within a faith-filled learning environment in which we are committed to supporting students to become confident and creative individuals, successful lifelong learners and active and informed members of the community.

Our learning environment is inspired by St John Fisher's academic passion and social justice work. The College bases its foundations on the charism of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy in which we value social justice, hospitality, compassion, courage and the daily living of Gospel values. We value every child as a learner and understand that all children learn in different ways and at different rates.

At St John Fisher College we promote equity, excellence, and opportunity for all students to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens.

Student Pathways

We understand that every student is different and we pride ourselves on guiding each student to find the right pathway, whether it's academically or vocationally geared. A Year 10, 11 or 12 student may be able to complete a TAFE Queensland qualification while still at school. Students may also choose from a wide variety of subjects to study during their senior phase of schooling, and may elect to study any combination of:

  • QCAA General subjects
  • QCAA Applied subjects
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificates
  • School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)

Laptops for learning

Students are provided with a College laptop in Year 7 which is then upgraded in Year 10. This 1:1 laptop program allows us to incorporate a range of technologies into our learning and teaching program. Our onsite IT technicians offer ongoing support ensuring students are able to access learning at their fingertips.
