Paddy's Van

Year 9 St John Fisher College students have joined the St Patrick's College team to help serve those in need this winter through Paddy's Van service. Paddy's Van has been running for 15 years, initially in the Brisbane CBD and now in the local Sandgate area, providing a meal, some company and conversation for residents in need.

Held on Monday 3:30pm-4:30pm at the Sandgate Community Centre, (SANDBAG) in Rainbow St Sandgate, students are encouraged not only to help with the distribution of food but also to engage and converse with patrons.

Year 9 student Gabriella Lock said she really enjoyed serving at the SANDBAG Paddy's Van last week and was pleased at the many interesting conversations she had with the patrons.

Two staff and six students' volunteers from St John Fisher College and St Patrick's College will be at SANDBAGS each Monday 4:00-6:00pm serving in an open area in accordance with strict COVID-safe guidelines.

Geraldine Swindells, Assistant Principal Mission and Identity said she was thrilled to see the students taking on the commitment whilst enjoying the fruits of giving back to your local community.

If staff or students from year 9 would like to participate in the program, please contact Mrs Swindells.
