Last Wednesday St John Fisher College
old girl, MacKenzie Findlay received the phone call she has waited her life to
receive, a call up to play for the AFL Women’s Lions team.
17-year old Findlay, who had been
playing in the QAFLW team as a
mid-fielder, really made her mark, stepping up to play in the forwards, scoring a goal for her team.
The first game for the Winter Series,
Lions claimed a 16-point victory over their main rivals, Gold Coast Suns at
Metricon Stadium.
St John
Fisher College, Head of Sport, Tamara Sparks, who coached McKenzie through her
schooling years; remarked; “McKenzie is a great ambassador for Women’s AFL,
still finding time to give back to the College by coaching the AFL squads”.
“The
College was so excited to see her play on Saturday; she is such an
inspiration”.
Game
two of the QW Winter Series will take place next month on June 23 at Great
Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.
